Hope 93, was the campaign jingle of the defunct SDP presidential campaign that fronted the late Bashorun MKO Abiola, who is regarded as the catalyst for the current democratic dispensation we now enjoy.
Its quite interesting the cultural bias and the chauvinistic way our so called law makers shot down the Gender Equality bill introduced on the floor of the house.
While I don’t have the full details of the bill, I feel the argument to reject the bill should be more intelligent than belligerent, emotional and tactless argument based on culture and tradition.
While its on record of the Anglo-Boer war of the 19th Century and prelude to that, the revolt to the Dutch Republic and the establishment of a separate republic in the Southern Africa, its worthy to note that the discovery of diamonds in 1867 and gold in 1884 in the interior started the Mineral Revolution and increased economic growth and immigration. This intensified the European-South African efforts to gain control over the indigenous peoples. The struggle to control these important economic resources was a factor in relations between Europeans and the indigenous population and also between the Boers and the British. Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn’t always fair and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). Continue reading
Finally, 2016 has commenced officially world over. And we all have our goals set for the year, and our aspirations for the country and our personal lives. Nonetheless, i would like to start by referring to the events in the country in the last couple of weeks that has left much of a bitter taste in the mouth. And whether we like it or not, we need to evaluate the past to learn and make amends for the future.

Again, experience has shown in Nigeria that it is not only protected officers that are corrupt. There have been cases of graft against local government chairmen who are not protected by Section 308, Directors of parastatals, ministers and so on. If these people who are not protected are corrupt as the protected ones, then the problem lies somewhere else and probably not with the immunity clause. Continue reading
Earlier in the week, heard in the news that the Nigerian Senate wants to amend the constitution, in particular the immunity clause due to the recent travails of the embattled Senate President. The rational, according to them, is to protect the number 3 Citizen of the country from “distractions” emanating from Court Proceedings instituted by either the state or individuals.

Came across this picture on the social media some days ago and got me really thinking. As I sat and pondered over the picture, a wave of sympathy swept over me for the man and his child caught in a political high stakes game of war he didn’t sign for.
