Turning Chaos to Order, Tapping into our Creative Ability

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Genesis 1:1-2, NIV). These opening verses of the Bible paint a picture of chaos, a world in disarray, with no structure or order. But by the word of His mouth, God brought light, form, and life into existence. What began as a formless void was transformed into the beauty of creation through the power of divine creativity. This same ability to turn chaos into order is embedded in every one of us, for we are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).

The Chaotic State of Nigeria

As Nigeria marks its 64th independence anniversary, it is impossible to overlook the fact that much of the nation’s promise still feels unrealized. From the founding years to today, Nigeria has wrestled with economic instability, political turbulence, and social unrest. Despite our rich resources and abundant potential, we face what seems to be perpetual disorder. Corruption, unemployment, inflation, and insecurity are just a few of the ongoing challenges.

Yet, just as in Genesis when God transformed chaos into order, there is hope for Nigeria. Our nation’s story is not over, and the power to create change lies within us as citizens. We are created in God’s image, endowed with the same ability to bring light and structure into confusion. As we celebrate Nigeria’s independence, we are reminded that the nation’s journey toward order and progress is in our hands.

Running from Chaos Does Not Bring Order

It is tempting to run away from chaos, hoping that distance will somehow resolve the disorder. But fleeing from our problems does not bring order, nor does it create solutions. God Himself did not shy away from chaos. In the creation narrative, He confronted it head-on. Rather than pointing fingers or shifting blame, He spoke directly to the darkness and disorder and brought forth light. “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3, NIV).

Pointing accusing fingers or shirking responsibility only prolongs chaos. Proverbs 19:3 TPT tells us, “There are some people who ruin their own lives and then blame it all on God.” Blaming others for the disorder in our lives or our nation does nothing to bring resolution. Instead, like God, we are called to confront the chaos, actively working to bring order and restoration. God looked at His creation and declared it “good” (Genesis 1:31). What He ordered and structured was pleasing, and we are invited to follow that divine example in our own lives.

Bringing Order to Our Personal Finances

The challenges facing the nation are mirrored in our personal finances. With inflation at record levels and the economy struggling, managing our resources can feel overwhelming. But rather than surrender to financial chaos, we can, like our Creator, use our God-given wisdom and creativity to bring order. Budgeting, saving, and investing wisely are practical steps to take control of our finances.

Proverbs 21:5 NLT tells us, “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.” Diligence, discipline, and the willingness to think outside the box can turn financial disorder into prosperity. Whether through side businesses, investments, or careful management of existing resources, we have the ability to create financial stability even in tough economic conditions.

Career and Business: A Platform for Creativity

The workplace is another arena where we can manifest our creative potential. Whether we are employees or entrepreneurs, we face challenges and uncertainties that can feel chaotic. Yet, just as God created the world with intention and vision, we too can bring clarity and structure to our careers. Innovating in the workplace, offering new solutions to old problems, and staying adaptable can propel our careers and businesses forward, even in uncertain times.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” In this, we see that our careers and businesses are not just avenues for earning a living; they are platforms for glorifying God through the order we bring to them.

Our God-Given Ability to Create Order

As citizens of Nigeria and as individuals, we have been given the divine ability to create. Just as God brought order to the universe, we are called to bring order to our lives, our finances, our careers, and our communities. It is easy to feel powerless in the face of Nigeria’s numerous challenges, but we are not. We are co-creators with God, imbued with His creativity, wisdom, and strength.

When we tap into this divine connection, we can begin to transform not only our personal circumstances but also contribute to the betterment of our nation. Proverbs 24:3-4 declares, “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” Wisdom and understanding are key to building both our personal and collective futures.

Proclaiming Order into Societal Chaos

On this 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, we are reminded of our role in shaping the future. Through prayer, strategic thinking, and action, we can declare order over Nigeria’s chaos. We are not merely onlookers to the dysfunction around us—we are the solution-bearers. By applying our creative abilities in our communities, businesses, and civic responsibilities, we can proclaim order into the societal chaos and see real transformation.

Running from our national issues will not solve them, nor will casting blame. It is through confronting these challenges and using our God-given abilities to innovate, organize, and lead that we will see lasting change. Just as God brought order to creation, we too can bring order to our nation and our world, and the results will be good.
